Insights, analysis and thoughts from the Junior Jaguars Head Coach
The Texas Youth Football Association (TYFA) was founded in in 1995 to provide the
opportunity to all children to participate in youth football and cheerleading and not be
discriminated against (especially because of their weight). TYFA feels that no matter
how large a child might be, it should not keep them from participating in a sport. TYFA
The purpose of TYFA is 1) to create a league whose mandate is to instruct youth in
the skills of football (both tackle and flag) and cheerleading, 2) to provide a standard
set of rules and guidance for all the chapters and member organizations so that there
is a sense of fair play, 3) to give the youth in the State of Texas a league where
“Dreams Begin”; where they can play, have fun and make friends without fear of
discrimination of their weight or gender. TYFA
The Objective of TYFA is 1) to inspire youth, regardless of race, color, creed, national
origin or sex, 2) to build healthy minds and bodies, 3) to develop skill and proficiency
in football and cheerleading and related activities, 4) to teach fundamentals, and the
concept of teamwork, sportsmanship (in victory and defeat), loyalty, honesty and
pride, 5) to stimulate community interest in sports, 6) to teach discipline, self-control
and respect to oneself as well as teammates, coaches, family and community. TYFA
TYFA is a "Competitive" NOT "Recreational" league. It is NOT "Select Ball". TYFA is
open to all boys and girls, not just those with experience or those that are good.
There is NO Mandatory Play rules that will force coaches to play your child. Children
earn their time on the field by coming to practice, working hard at learning the game
of football or the skills of cheerleading. TYFA
Mandatory Play Rule...
There is none. The Live Oak Jaguars does not force any team to play a child a
certain amount of plays. We do recommended to each team that they provide the
opportunity for the child to play as long as they show up to practice, are trying to
learn, are not disciplinary problems etc…Live Oak Jaguars
NCAA Rules/Interpretations (NCAA-R/I), as published annually, is the basic rulebook
for TYFA tackle programs (Midget, Rookie, Junior, Senior and Varsity). The NCAA-R/I
are supplemented by TYFA Bylaws and Program Rules.
Football is an aggressive, rugged contact sport. Only the highest standards of
sportsmanship and conduct are expected of players, coaches and others associated
with the game. There is no place for unfair tactics, unsportsmanlike conduct or
maneuvers deliberately designed to inflict injury. “NCAA Rules Committee”
